Dr. Kristen Cuperus grew up on a farm by Fulda, Minnesota.  She attended the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse, then graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017.  She has been with the Montrose Vet Clinic since then.  Kristen enjoys working with beef cattle, sheep and goats, and helping out with small animal appointments when needed.  She lives in Salem with her dog, a boxer/pit bull mix named Calamity, and a three-legged cat named Bane.

​Dr. James Gerdes

Dr Gerdes grew up on a grain and livestock farm in southwest Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. While there, he focused his studies in food animal medicine with an emphasis in dairy herd management. Dr Gerdes has been at the MVC since graduation and took over an ownership role in 2014.  He lives outside of Hartford with his wife, three daughters, two dogs, and a bunch of farm cats.

Dr. Mindy Nieuwboer originates from southwest Minnesota. She graduated vet school from the University of Missouri and joined the Montrose Vet Clinic in 2017. She works primarily with cattle and horses.

Our veterinarians are passionate about animal health and have your best interest at heart.

Dr. Renee Nelsen grew up on a dairy and beef farm near Watertown, SD. She graduated from Iowa State University and then started working at the Montrose Veterinary Clinic.  She works primarily with our small animal clientele but also enjoys working with cattle. She lives near Colton with her husband, two children, three cats, and a border collie.

About Us

​Dr. Renee Nelson

The Montrose Veterinary Clinic has been in Montrose for over 60 years. We have friendly and compassionate personnel that offer professional and compassionate service to our clients and patients.

We provide many services including preventative care, routine examines, vaccines, diagnostics, soft tissue and some orthopedic surgery, treatments protocols for various conditions, dental care, radiography, and emergency services.

We are available for farm calls for large animals for preventative care, herd work, examinations, diagnostics, treatments, as well as emergency care.
